Some things he believes:
Love Trump. Love how he operates. He’s like a king.
The regional geopolitics changed after MBS took power. Saudi learned in the 2000s that it should not let other countries dominate the regional politics.
The main players have always known that the US would eventually leave the region. That means Israel, Iran, Turkey. They all adopted aggressive policies.
Qatar and Bahrain, are client states of the US including the UAE. All of them have American bases. The only reason they are independent countries is because they have American bases. Those bases are for America to project its power but also to keep those countries independent.
Nobody wants a war with Iran. Nobody wants them to have nuclear weapons either. But the policy under Obama and Trump and Biden and Trump again is best if it defuses the conflict with Iran. (that may not be the Israeli view.)
The problematic mixed strategy from Qatar is actually with full US consent. That means the activities of Qatar to “destabilize the region“, eg funding Hamas. And if it’s with US consent that means it’s also with Israeli consent. Furthermore, meaning Israel has always wanted an action out of Gaza that would justify the full domination of that area. The strategy of Israel is to take control of the West Bank parentheses a project that is well underway) and now that project for Gaza is also underway.
Saudi is now projecting power. Overdue.
The current Trump position is very favorable to Saudi. It supports a I’m gonna go upstairs no US strategy in the region. Saudi is fully capable of dominating its neighbors. Perhaps the exception is Iran, or Iran is strong defensively not offensively.
