The oversupply of “fix email” startups

There are just a ton of people out to “fix email” at the moment. It’s quite amazing. Clearly we all agree there is a big problem and opportunity.

It reminds me a bit of the moment when AWS made it seem obvious that we could store all our files on Amazon somehow. A friend had an idea for Whaledrive – a UI + AWS S3 that would store your files. Any Yousendit.com was on fire. It was the “better cost structure” wave that built on the first-generation of iDrives and Xdrives.

Worth pausing to reflect on how Dropbox ran away with it.
