Here’s a great snippet via the legendary toolsmaker Steve Sinofsky of Microsoft software fame:
It’s true and it has an origin in the far weightier philosopher pre-Kuhn who makes this argument: Marx.
The superstructure of culture and society is built on changes in the economic basis of production and exchange. The technologies of the age make society (and also the scientific theories move on this basis).
Hunt and gather = tribes. Farm = organized communities and government. Industry = specialization of labor and trade.
Theory and concepts didn’t make democracy or globalization, technology did.
