What do you learn from novice founders, 2?

Quite a while ago I started this post with one decent thought.

So what else do you learn from looking at novice startup founders?

2. “When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” Startup founder did X (design at Apple, marketing at RGA, strategy at McKinsey…) and their startup is all about the insanely transformative power of X. I think startups are about four things: people, product, market and financing. That’s it. Marketing isn’t one of them. Neither is design. It doesn’t mean you can suck at those — you must not. But it does not mean that design will make up for your commodity clonable product’s weak differentiation and weak moat.

Onward.
